Eithne Pdraign N Bhraonin, the fourth youngest of nine children, comes from the small village of Dore (Dobhar in Irish) in the Gweedore (Gaoth Dobhair) region of County Donegal in northwestern Ireland. There are other songs on the album, all with Enya's beautiful voice and all blending New Age and Celtic, but for me those two mentioned are more than enough to make it worth your attention. Enya, Soundtrack: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. With a blend of New Age music and Celtic rythyms, it seems more evocation than son g, conjuring up images of faraway and mythical places and dreams of other times. That was probably the first time I heard "Orinoco Flow." After all these years, I still don't pretend to understand it. The album design is exquisite, with Enya wearing a royal blue velvet robe created by Elizabeth Emanuel exclusively for the photo shoot, which makes her look like an eternal Celtic goddess in her golden throne. I didn't need to know this was an album of her greatest hits (fact is, I'd never heard of her) I only wanted that one song. With two sides of bio info in Japanese, the back cover is most interesting in that it depicts a Japanese back catalogue of singles & albums and promotes the new release of Moon Shadow on Video and Lazerdisc. One such song (or perhaps melodic chant) was "In Memory Of Trees" on an album called "Paint The Sky With Stars" by an artist called Enya. I would then rush to my man in the music department, have him identify it and then I'd buy the album. Now and then a song caught my undivided attention. On her album covers, Enya’s always posed against a backdrop of nature or old regency the cover of her 1988 breakthrough album Watermark renders her the subject of an impressionist painting. Years ago, I worked for Best Buy and each day listened to the music piped through the store. "Serendipity": finding something you do not seek.
